Sizing
Two measurements,
one right size.
A suit is bought on the chest and the waist, not on height alone. Measure once with a soft tape, compare below, and if you land between sizes take the larger one – a tailor can take in, but cannot add.
How to measure
- Chest – under the arms, across the fullest part of the chest, tape level and snug but not tight.
- Natural waist – at the navel, not where your trousers sit. Keep one finger under the tape.
- Height – shoes off, against a wall. Under 5’7″ ask for a short length; over 6’1″ ask for a long.
- Sleeve – from the shoulder seam to just past the wrist bone, arm relaxed.

Short (S) and long (L) lengths are available on request. The size on the label is the chest measurement in inches – a 40R fits a 40 inch chest.
Trousers
The trousers in a suit set are cut to match the jacket size, with roughly 6 cm (2.4 in) of adjustment at the waistband. They ship unhemmed with a 34 in inside leg; any tailor can shorten and finish them for your shoes. If you need a different waist than the set provides, message us before ordering and we will match the trousers separately.
The three blocks
- Business – regular through the chest and waist, straight or gently tapered leg. For most builds, and the easiest to alter.
- Formal – cut closer, with peak lapels, double-breasted fronts and three-piece sets. Check the chest before ordering.
- Ceremony – linen and evening cuts. The linen runs relaxed; the tuxedo runs close. Both are designed to be tailored at the hem.
Jacket length and sleeve
A finished jacket should cover the seat with about 1-2 cm of shirt cuff showing. Sleeves are cut to a standard length and can be shortened by a tailor; working buttonholes on the atelier suit mean shortening there is best done by someone who knows what they are doing.
